My little brother got into outer space and stuff so my step-mom bought him a place mat with all the planets on it. When I first saw it, I was upset, because it was newer and so Pluto wasn’t labeled. I was about to say something when I noticed something…

I don’t want to justify suicide as much as teach people how necessary understanding is in order to reach people who are in danger of committing suicide. If your depression was egging you on to commit suicide would you go to this person for help? This kind of smug self-righteousness only makes the problem worse and forces more people who are contemplating suicide into greater secrecy. If one truly wants to help people from embracing suicide as a solution, it is absolutely necessary to consider their point of view instead of slandering them as cowardly or selfish. Why they are doing it according to THEM and not what you think is vital to truly help them. This attitude doesn’t and only serves to shame (which, with depression, only makes things worse.)
This. Suicidal tendencies aren’t often obvious. If you talk like this about suicide in front of one of your friends who might be struggling, guess who isn’t going to ask you to help them? Seriously, don’t be an asshole. You do not know who’s suffering, and you could be making your friend’s problem worse.
That… that little bit there was very hard to read. People that deal with suicidal thoughts often know the arguments against suicide. Telling them that they’re being cowardly, weak-minded, or have gotten lost is not going to help them. They’re not going to reply with “Oh thank you so much for pointing that out. Now I know what my problem is and can fix it.”
I don’t often say that. But seriously, fuck you. Try putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. What would drive a person to feel that way, to think that way? If you can’t think of the reasons why they might, then you don’t know the whole story.
It takes someone very strong to deal with suicidal thoughts and tendencies. Suicide is not about the family, friends, acquaintances or anyone else but the individual having those thoughts, feelings, and/or actions. It is also important to remember that you aren’t in other people’s heads. You can’t know what someone else is thinking, so you do not know what someone is dealing with.
I have a lot of very strong feelings about this. More than once I’ve been told that I wouldn’t understand what it’s like to feel depressed or suicidal by people that I considered to be friends because they never saw the signs. I have a tendency to be a very private person. It is hard for me to open up and talk about emotions and feelings and what’s going on inside my head to anyone in general. Those that I do talk to are often worried because there’s a whole lot more going on that I let on normally.
Going from what I know of myself, I tend to start at the assumption that if I know someone, they’ve possibly dealt with or are currently dealing with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, or a host of other things. It just seems safer that way and I find that I automatically act kinder toward someone if I’m working off of those assumptions.
I wish I didn’t find things that I want to say more on when I’m so tired. This deserves a lot more discussion.
and you’re left speechless. You want to be able to say something to make them feel better, but you can’t think of anything. All you can do is try to respond with something but then it seems like you don’t care. It sucks when someone is pouring their heart out to you, and you can’t do anything to fix it.
9: Name a LEAST favorite of each: book, movie, tv show.
Book: The Color Purple or The Bluest Eye. Never finished either.
Movie: This is going to sound stupid, but I think I’ve blocked the movie from my mind. I know there was one that I turned off not to long ago when I was about halfway in because it triggered a panic attack about my childhood. And it was something really popular that I absolutely ended up loathing and a number of people told me I’d really enjoy it.
TV Show: uhh… I don’t watch enough TV really, but I’m very much against anything that promotes high levels of consumerism, sexism, or general disrespect of self, others, or diminishes cultural values. The show about kids who do the beauty pagents and things like Jersey Shore come to mind.
10: If you were sat on a plane beside your favorite celebrity, what would you do?
Depends. If they were friendly and talkative I’d ask them about life, family, etc. The basics of being friendly and such. Honestly, there are certain celebrities that I really just want to have a cup of tea with and see how normal they are, if they’re really happy and that sort of thing.
15: If you could be reincarnated as any animal, which would you chose and why?
Hard choice, actually. Tree swallow because the way they fly is incredible, wolves because they’re such amazing creatures, or a lab because that’s pretty much what I am anyway.
16: Which band (current or past) would you want to go on tour* with? (*Travel with, not preform with.)
Barrage. They go all over the place and seem to meet some really awesome people. They also work with kids a lot, which I think is a great thing for a band to do. The individuals in the group are so varied that they’d be so much fun to talk to and get to know.
1: Apart from tumblr, what do you like to do in your spare time? 2: Name a favorite of each: food, drink, color. 3: If you married rich and your spouse gave you $100,000 a week, what would you spend it on? 4: Name a favorite of each: book, movie, tv show. 5: If you were given the opportunity to spend 48 hours with absolutely anyone (living or dead), who would you spend it with and what would you do? 6: Name a LEAST favorite of each: food, drink, color. 7: What do you spend most of your money on? 8: What kind of underwear do you prefer wearing? 9: Name a LEAST favorite of each: book, movie, tv show. 10: If you were sat on a plane beside your favorite celebrity, what would you do? 11: What is the strangest thing you have in your room? (You are not allowed to explain why you own it.) 12: What is a weird habit you have, or people have told you have. (Weird, not bad. No nail biting or any of that nonsense.) 13: What would you consider to be the biggest insult to yourself? 14: What are five things you absolutely have to have in your dream house? 15: If you could be reincarnated as any animal, which would you chose and why? 16: Which band (current or past) would you want to go on tour* with? (*Travel with, not preform with.) 17: Name a favorite of each: band, album, song. 18: Why is your favorite band your favorite? 19: How many concerts have you attended? Which was your favorite? Least favorite? If none, who do you want to see live the most? 20: What is one of your favorite song lyrics? (Who is it by?) 21: Who do you ship? 22: What band merch do you own? If any, whose is it and when did you get it? If none, whose do you wish you owned? 23: How did you learn of the band that is currently your favorite? 24: What celebrity do you idolize the most? 25: Which member from which band would you most want to lather in nutella?
Ugg… I really don’t want to have this party tomorrow. I feel so drained and I don’t want to deal with people asking what I’m doing and why I’m not going to grad school and what am I going to do with my life.
Rie:It makes it seem like there's not pertinent (crap.. wasn't braining earlier now i'm not englishing) topics to oceans
Rie:I suppose trains aren't pertinent to oceans.
Rie:*waiting for the kid to come up with a way trains apply*
Kid:We get trains. Like the ones you put in bathtubs...and you fill them with rocks. And let them sink to the bottom of the tank, and then your FISH CAN HAVE A TRAIN. RIE. WAIT. RIE. I NEED TO LET MY PUFFER HAVE A TRAIN. RIIIIEEEEE.
